About Bulgaria

Bulgaria has long been appreciated as one of the most beautiful vacation spots in Eastern Europe. It is located in south Eastern Europe. It borders with Greece and Turkey in the South, Macedonia and Serbia (former Yugoslavia) to the west and Romania to the north which is separated by the calm blue waters of the Danube River. Along the eastern coast you will find amazing white sandy beaches and the warm aqua marine blue waters of the Black Sea.

Bulgaria s population is 8.5 million people populating 111,000 square kilometres. This means that Bulgaria has massive unspoiled expanses of lush green forests and mountains, fields of roses in the rose valley, hot natural mineral water spa resorts, first class ski resorts and massive expanses of white sandy beaches by the Black Sea. The capital city Sofia is a lively and very cosmopolitan city with a huge cultural heritage. Here you will find all the galleries, shops, restaurants and night life associated with any large capital city. Once out of the cities, you can still find many wonderful scenic villages. A walk through a village makes you feel like you are going back in time with their horses and carts and natural organic produce growing in the gardens of their houses. With such a variety of pursuits in one small country, it is certain that there will be something for everybody to enjoy.

Bulgaria has worked hard to lay to rest the dark communist times and since the fall of the Communist Government in the late 1980s, the market economy has been steadily growing. Since joining the European Union on 1 st January 2007, Bulgaria is working hard to change and align itself with Western laws and procedures. There are very few reminders of the old Communist ways in Bulgaria today and I am sure first time visitors to this wonderful country will be pleasantly surprised at what they find here. Since joining the EU, life has become much easier for foreigners living and working in the country. For example, EU members can apply for a five year long- term residency card with very little difficulty, whereas before, there were many problems associated with long term visas. Foriegners who are long-term residents are also allowed to vote within Bulgaria for any Bulgarian candidate if they so choose.

Of course, one of the huge benefits of living in Bulgaria is value for money. The cost of living is still lower than any other country in Western Europe. For example, a pint of beer costs around 40 pence, cigarettes are 80 pence a packet, a cup of coffee will cost you around 12 pence and a meal for two with wine around £8 to £10 in a nice restaurant.

The property market in Bulgaria is booming and it is one of the most desirable and established countries in Europe to invest. If you are not convinced, take a look at prices in France, Spain, Italy and Portugal. There is no comparison. Whether you are looking for a ski chalet, beach residence, mountainside cabin or an apartment in the city, you are guaranteed to find a perfect property within your budget.

Do I need to continue! If you are not convinced of the benefits of beautiful Bulgaria, then you should come and see for yourselves. You will not be disappointed.
